About

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”                                                                                                       – Murakami H.

Recede in te ipsum is a blog that follows the making process of my video project. This short film is a project in Visual Anthropology, which tells a story of indecision, and explores the struggle and crisis that comes with it.

I’m Margherita, I’m a 22 years old Anthropology student, a step away to finish my undergraduate studies. I grew up in Rome, Italy, until I turned 19, when I finally fulfilled my longstanding dream to move to the UK, and study at an English university. During my second year I had the choice to add a year abroad to my programme of study, and within a span of a day, I made one of the best and most important decisions of my life: going to Japan for a year. This experience has changed me deeply, it gave me a direction, and a new dream to follow.

Photography has always been an interest of mine, which I extensively practiced, not professionally, but on myself and on others. However, having very little experience with video making and editing, choosing this format has been a real challenge. Despite this, the experience has given me the opportunity to learn new ways to move and play with the camera, allowing me to build a deeper relationship with it.
